Every Spixal lunch product, whatever it's made from, silicone, stainless steel or plastic, is BPA free and made from food safe materials. Our silicone range is tested to and passes FDA 21 CFR 177.2600, the international food contact standard for silicone. No exceptions, no fine print, no "mostly" safe.
That's the baseline we build every product to, not an upsell we charge extra for.

What food safety testing has the Spixal silicone range passed?
Our whole silicone range passes FDA 21 CFR 177.2600, the standard for silicone and rubber items used with food again and again. It boils the silicone in water and in a fat simulant for hours and checks that nothing comes out into the food. The range was also tested for BPA, lead, cadmium and six phthalates, and none were detected. Australia doesn't have its own certificate for food contact items, so brands test against international standards like this to show their products meet the Food Standards Code.
What food safety testing have Spixal plastic lunch boxes, food jars and drink bottles passed?
Every Spixal lunch container outside our silicone range, including the Roundie, Quad, Duo, Flexi snack box, Core stainless steel bento, insulated food jars and 750ml drink bottles, passed a full set of food contact tests, including testing to French BPA law (Law No. 2010-729, amended by Law No. 2012-1442), which bans BPA in anything that touches food. No BPA was detected. The tests also check that nothing harmful moves into food, including overall migration and specific migration of heavy metals, tin, phthalates, acrylonitrile and other plastic building blocks. They also check the materials themselves for phthalates, PCBs, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), 1,3-butadiene and aromatic amines, check the metal parts for what they release into food, check that the plastic doesn't change the pH of water it touches, and check that no colour, taste or smell transfers to food.
Is Spixal silicone free from lead, cadmium and phthalates?
Yes. Our silicone range was tested for lead, cadmium and six phthalates: dibutyl phthalate (DBP), benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP), bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), diisononyl phthalate (DINP), diisodecyl phthalate (DIDP) and di-n-hexyl phthalate (DnHP). None were detected.
Is silicone BPA free?
Yes. BPA is used to make some hard plastics, and silicone isn't made with it, so silicone is naturally BPA free. Our silicone range was also tested for BPA and none was detected.
Which Spixal lunch boxes are plastic free?

You also get 30 days to return it under our Love It Or Return It Free guarantee, with return postage covered within Australia. For hygiene reasons, used food containers can only be returned if they're faulty.
