The short answer: a toddler starting daycare needs a backpack big enough for two changes of clothes, nappies, bedding, bottles, lunch and a sun hat, but light enough for little shoulders. The Little Adventures Starter Kit puts that in one order: a 25L Spixal Junior backpack with three compartments (just 400g empty), a matching 750ml drink bottle and a complimentary Magnetic Hat Clip, in six prints kids recognise as their own.

Here's what nobody tells you: the tiny toddler bag won't fit the day.

Made for little ones and their big days

Our Little Adventures Kits for ages 1–3 are designed for daycare, family outings, sleepovers at the grandparents’ house, weekend trips and holidays.

Each kit includes a roomy Spixal backpack, drink bottle and complimentary hat clip - giving parents a practical way to pack everything toddlers need while out and about.

The backpack is roomy enough for changes of clothes, nappies, wipes, snacks, a lunch bag, comfort items and their favourite little toy, without being unnecessarily bulky. Three practical compartments help keep everything organised and easy to find.

The complimentary hat clip keeps their hat visible on the outside of the bag, helping busy parents remember it before leaving home. Because when it’s “no hat, no play”, it’s one less thing you want to forget.

Perfect for little adventurers aged 1–3. Choose their favourite Spixal design and get ready for daycare days, family outings and every adventure in between.

Packing for daycare for the first time? FAQs

What's in the Little Adventures Starter Kit?

A 25L Spixal Junior backpack, a matching 750ml drink bottle and a complimentary Magnetic Hat Clip.

This is a bag-and-bottle starting point, so look separately at anything your centre asks you to supply for meals or rest time. Some centres provide food; others need a full packed lunch. Keep spare clothing together in one compartment and put the bottle where an adult can reach it at drop-off. You can add a lunch bag later if the daily routine changes, rather than buying every school item on day one.

What size bag does a toddler need for daycare?

Big enough for two changes of clothes, bedding, bottles, a hat and lunch. The 25L Junior backpack fits a full daycare day in three compartments, without needing extra bags.

Ask the centre what stays there and what needs to come home each afternoon. Bedding and spare clothes can take more space than lunch, especially after a wet-weather change. Pack those items first, then check the remaining room for bottles and food. A bag's capacity is storage space, not a target weight for a toddler to carry; an adult may need to carry the loaded bag between home and the room.

How do I stop my toddler losing their hat at daycare?

Clip it to the bag. The Magnetic Hat Clip attaches to the D-ring on the Junior backpack, so the hat stays on the outside where you and the educators can see it.

Give the hat a regular spot: clipped on before leaving home, back on the clip after play. Practise that movement with your child while the bag is on a hook. Attach the clip where the hat will not drag on the ground or cover a zip they use often. It makes the missing-hat check a quick glance at the bag, rather than another search through the lunch compartment.

Is the kit only for daycare?

No. It's made for daycare, family outings, sleepovers at the grandparents' and weekend trips, and the backpack still suits them at kindy and the first years of school.

For a short outing, pack only what the day calls for and leave the daycare spares at home. For a sleepover, use the separate compartments for clothing, bedtime items and small things you want to reach quickly. Check the fit again when your child starts carrying the bag themselves. The same bag can serve several routines, but it does not need to carry the full daycare load on every trip.
