Lunch Bags FAQs
Are Spixal lunch bags insulated?
Yes. Spixal lunch bags are insulated and have an easy-wipe lining. They help slow temperature change while carrying your lunch, but they do not actively refrigerate food.
Insulation slows temperature change; it does not chill warm food or replace a fridge. Start with appropriately chilled food and a suitable cooling pack, keep the bag closed between breaks, and store it out of direct sun where possible. How well it holds temperature depends on the contents, weather and time in transit. For perishable food on a long day, plan the storage around the available fridge and the meal break.
What's the difference between a lunch bag and a lunch box?
The lunch box (or bento) holds the food. The lunch bag is the insulated bag it travels in, with room for the lunch box, a drink and an ice pack. Our lunch bags are sized to fit our bento boxes.
The box organises and contains the food; the bag carries it along with the things needed to keep and eat it. Check both sizes before buying them separately. A well-fitting bag leaves room for cooling without squeezing the box lid. If you already have a favourite bento, choose the bag around that shape, then add only the snack containers and cutlery you use during the day.
Which lunch bags are leakproof?
The Insulated Lunch Tote Bag and the Insulated Cooler Tote Bag have a leakproof PEVA lining. You can pack ice straight in, and when it melts the water stays inside the bag.
Keep the bag upright and make sure the lining is in good condition before adding loose ice. A leakproof lining does not mean the zip opening is watertight if the bag tips over. Keep phones, books and other dry items away from the main compartment. After the trip, empty the melted water, wipe the lining and dry the bag open. Reusable ice packs are another option when you want less water to empty later.
What size lunch bag does my child need?
For daycare, kindy and primary school, the Kids Lunch Bag (26 × 19 × 10 cm, 5L) fits a bento box, snacks and a drink. Teens with bigger appetites suit the Insulated Cooler Tote Bag, which fits a bento plus an 800ml food jar.
Check the lunch box's width, depth and height against the space in the bag, then allow room for any cooling pack or snack container. A bag that fits one bento will not necessarily fit that bento plus every accessory at once. Pack the biggest piece first and use the remaining space for smaller items. The zip should close freely rather than pulling tightly across the lid or compressing soft food.
Which lunch bag is best for adults?
The Commute Lunch Bag holds two 1200ml bentos and has an ice pack compartment, so it suits work lunches and meal prep. The tote bags come in a lunch size and a larger cooler size. See all lunch bags for adults .
Think about how many meals you take, not just the main lunch. Two containers can be useful for a long shift or separate lunch and dinner, while a smaller tote may be enough for one meal. Count the cooling pack, bottle and cutlery in the space required. If you commute with a laptop bag as well, consider how you will carry both comfortably and where lunch will be stored once you arrive.
How do I keep a lunch bag cold all day?
Pack an ice brick or a frozen drink with the food, and keep the bag zipped until lunch. The Commute Lunch Bag has a dedicated base compartment for an ice pack.
Pack chilled food shortly before leaving, use suitable cooling packs and keep the bag closed between breaks. Put it in a fridge when one is available and follow the storage directions for the food you packed. A hot car can overwhelm an insulated bag, so do not rely on the bag alone for all-day temperature control. Choose the packing method around the actual travel time and the time until the meal is eaten.
How do you clean a lunch bag?
Wipe the lining with a damp cloth after use. Kids lunch bags can also go in the washing machine on a gentle cycle. Leave the bag open to air dry before storing.
Empty all compartments and shake out crumbs before wiping the lining. Clean around the corners and seams, where a small spill can hide. Use the washing method listed for the particular bag rather than assuming every fabric bag can go in the machine. Leave the zip open and allow the inside to dry completely. Packing food into a bag that is still damp makes yesterday's small spill much harder to forget.
Will the lunch bag fit in the backpack?
Yes. The Insulated Lunch Tote Bag is sized to slip inside the Axis backpack, and the Kids Lunch Bag has a clip on its handle to attach it to the school bag.
Use the handle clip when it suits the school bag and your child's walk to class. Close it fully and check the lunch bag does not hang so low that it knocks their legs or drags. Carrying lunch outside can free space for books, but it also changes how the bag feels when moving. Practise attaching and removing it at home so your child can manage it at the classroom hook.
